Joe Sexton's backside 360 5050 wins in a landslide! With Scotty Wittlake, Justin Hebbel, LNP, and Nima Jalali coming in the top five as well. This video below was supposed to have all five tricks, but I didn't have Scotty or Justin's tricks on DVD. So it's the best I could do. (Ok, my video failed uploading on Youtube. I'll try to get it to work, hopefully with the Justin and Scotty's tricks soon)
Although all the tricks listed deserve to be honorable mentions, I'm going to mention just two. JP Walker's frontside boardslide on the kink was unbelievable at the time. A lot of pros were still learning frontside boardslides properly and not many people were doing kink rails. But then again, JP has been changing how we snowboard, what we do on snowboards, and where we snowboard pretty much since he went pro.
The other honorable mention got one vote, mine. This trick went virtually unrecognized, in fact I'm probably the only person who cared. In the Revival Ali Goulet did a fakie front lip (think nollie boardslide, but fakie). I think the reason this trick went under the radar was because he did it at a time when you had to do one of three things to make a banger: 1) slide the rail with your butt facing down hill, 2) spin on, or 3) jump on something scary. In fact, the only person besides Ali who I've seen do this trick is Matty Ryan.
Feel free to comment, I'm interested in what people think on this one. Any bangers I missed?
i think the reason joey won is because everyone on here is young and dosent watch or has ever seen older movies
ReplyDeletescotty wittlake should have won for sure no question. it took some HUGE balls to do what he did, and it took some damn skill to stay on both rails the whole way. no bails allowed.
ReplyDeletejoe david sexton was not the first one seen doing that trick. the three ring dragon circus mystery spot rail gardens contest when cameron pierce did it was seen first, then nic sauve did the same trick in the first chair/ last call vid.
not gonna lie, joe's good, but do your damn research kids.
what about andrew geeves' front board on a triple kink?
ReplyDeleteamericans dont recognize talent in canada
i think scott stevens got mj's popular, does that count for anything...
ReplyDeletei think joey won because he has alot of fans. im sure or atleast i hope that the younger kids watch the older movies.
ReplyDeletescottys trick was crazy, i would guess most people know it wasnt the heaviest trick for its time.
americans do recognize talent in canada. devun walsh. everyone loves him.
mj's was hardly a heavy trick. its fun and when it first came out it was kinda clever/interesting.
i got your back on the ali thing
ReplyDeletematty ryan has nasty prop lipslides
ReplyDeletestephen duke, the most perfect back lip down the double kink in some kinda life.
ReplyDeleteSexton does it with the best style though.
ReplyDeleteand you're right, most kids are too young to vote for older bangers.
we should try to not forget JP's long ass switch nosepress at snow summit in technical difficulties
ReplyDeletenor the big gap to boardslide on a triple kink that Nate bozung did in true life.
LNP as been the first and the only person I've seen doing a real bs tail 270 out(not a nollie pop)
the best looking bs 360 is definitly Nic sauve's, Joe's one got some weelies in it, or like we like to call "jet ski" slide. He will do a legit one eventually.
interesting poll for sure!
joey was tail pressin. watch him do it in the coc down bar edit. back 3 to tail press back one out. that's why he was wheelying hommes
ReplyDeletemitch's 180 nosepress was the tech banger standout for me. looked like it was scott johnston on a skatebord.
ReplyDeletejeff anderson.... period. kevin jones was rider of the year more than once and continued to give the kid props. it seemed that evey year the guy was bringing something new to the table. and if it wasn't new, he did it bigger, cleaner, and with way more style. the guy killed it on rails, big jumps, pipe, back country, everything. best switch methods in the biz too.... if you are able to, check out the old BULLSEYE PRODUCTION flicks.... rawest JLA footage ever. jeff for sure had the cleanest natural talent ever and was ahead of his time. this may be my opinion, but hey, i calls it like i sees it.
ReplyDeletejoey did it early season at bear on a flat rail before the dragon contest
ReplyDeleteresearch done
what about travis parkers gap to wheelie down the entire landing of a pretty hefty step up ramp.
ReplyDeletenima switch 5-0 front 360 on that drop ledge in were people too. that impressed me a lot.
ReplyDeleteyou do realize you cant call it the heaviest/best trick for its time when the poll was all about rail tricks.
ReplyDeletejoeys' 3 is, however, one of the heaviest tricks of all time so it doesnt really matter. and i'm on the wheelie boat. it might not have been a mathes 5-0, but after spinning back 3 onto a legit street rail, i'm gonna let say it counts.
keep up the good work, I check this blog daily!
ReplyDeleteim just gonna say that hebbel should have won this poll. no disrespect to the other riders but if any of you rember his part from love/hate that shit was rediculous, every single shot was an ender for any other guys part
ReplyDeletewittlake hands down... If you saw that rail in person you would be scared to walk down it. Plus did you see the drop off on each side?
ReplyDeletekooley's back 270's
ReplyDeletenobody does that trick as good as him.
when jp walker did his frontboard he pretty much made people realize that if you just commit, just throw that rail right between your feet, you might be able to pull some crazy tricks. I think he kinda opened it up at that point. well he opened it up at a lot of different points i guess. hebbel opened it up in love/hate too. that was the closest thing to reproducing what jp had done in the early years of his career.
ReplyDeleteamen
ReplyDeletewhat about Louie's triple kink boardslide in robot food with a little nose tap on the donkey dick i might add.. that was nuts o matic.....
ReplyDeletelouie's bs was nuts.
ReplyDeletejake welch did a damn good bs 180 switch nosepress in the foursquare video. just as an honorable mention... i dont think i saw anyone do a better one.
i voted for whitlake. but back 360 onto a rail is more of a trick i guess. i wonder who really did it first, cam, joe or nic. all 3 were last season some time. i know joes had that shit on park rails for years
ReplyDeleteheaviest trick FOR IT'S TIME. If we weren't around to see the older ones, how would we know how heavy it was for its time. as far as my vote goes, I've been snowboarding for 3 years, and Joey's back 3 on to a handrail is the heaviest trick i have ever witnessed. just my two cents.
ReplyDeleteyouve only been snowboarding for 3 years. you dont have two cents yet
ReplyDeleteHe has 3 cents.
